Hello and welcome to my new blog! I am here to offer tips, tricks, and ideas to get your child active at home. My name is Julie Bagley and I love PE! I have been teaching in the schools since 2008. I live in Provo, Utah and I went to good ol' BYU for school. I studied Physical Education teaching/coaching and also Health Education.
As a young child I thrived on exercise. I didn't realize how much I needed it in my every day life until it was not required by a coach on a sports team (even then I still loved it). I grew up playing every sport that was offered to me. Volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, softball, track and field, and cross country. My dad was a huge sports enthusiast and encouraged all of us to play. My best memories are of us at a football field kicking field goals, or playing basketball as a family. In 8th grade I won the sports award at our graduation. In high school I played sports year round and tried new things like cross country and track (just to mix things up).
I am a wife to my best friend, Spencer. We have been married for 8 years and guess what? He graduates UVU in August! I can't wait to have more time with him at home. He is a very hard worker and so much fun to be around. We have two beautiful children. They are the loves of my life! My daughter is in kindergarten and my son is in pre-school. They are active, wild and adventurous and I just love them to death!
I got really into running during high school and continued until I had children. I ran several half marathons and completed the St. George Marathon in 2010. Since then I have kept active through the gym, workout videos, and hiking with my family. I still run on occasion but weight lifting is my new favorite.
Currently, I teach 2nd grade at a charter school. I chose to take time off from teaching when I had my son, but quickly learned that I need to work! Since I'm not currently teaching PE, I thought this blog would be a great way to keep up with my lessons and skills as a teacher. Plus, this will be a great place to put down all of my ideas!
I chose to create a blog targeted at home school moms and kids because I feel like there isn't a lot of information targeted to that population. My goal is to provide you with weekly ideas targeted to fit with NASPE (National PE standards), with a little twist of my own. Exercise can and should be fun! Especially if your child works out with just a couple of other kids, or even on their own. I've had this idea in my head for quite some time and I decided it's finally time to put it in words. Happy exercising!
